Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Monday's series-finale between the Quakes and the Rawhide was dominated by pitching, with Visalia scoring a pair of late runs to down the Quakes by a score of 2-0.
A pair of runs in the eighth against Rancho reliever Parker Curry prevented a four-game sweep by the Quakes, as they saw their three-game winning streak come to an end, but still finished the home stand at 5-2.
The teams combined for just eight hits, as the Quakes were shut out for the fourth time in 2017.
Curry fired a scoreless seventh, but got into trouble in the eighth, as he issued a one-out walk, then allowed a pair of two-out hits. After Sergio Alcántara singled Daniel Lockhart to third base and took second on the throw, Jason Morozowski chopped a ball to the right of shortstop Omar Estevez. Estevez's throw to first base skipped past first baseman Luke Raley, allowing a second run to score to put the Rawhide up, 2-0.
Rancho brought the tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth, but couldn't score against the Rawhide bullpen. Bud Jeter earned the save, his league-leading tenth of the year, getting Estevez to ground into a game-ending double-play.
Visalia starter Jose Almonte (4-3) earned his second win against the Quakes this year, as he fired seven brilliant shutout innings, setting a career-high with ten strikeouts.
Quakes' starter Yadier Álvarez enjoyed his best outing of the season, as he tossed five innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit and one walk, while fanning five hitters.
The Quakes (26-19) head to Modesto on Tuesday, opening a brief three-game road-trip against the Nuts. Dean Kremer (1-2) will throw for Rancho in the opener, while Modesto will send Nick Neidert (4-0) to the mound at 7:05pm.
On Friday, the Quakes are back home for a four-game series against the Stockton Ports. Friday night will be Corey Seager Bobblehead Giveaway, as 1,500 fans through the gates will take home a Corey Seager Bobblehead thanks to Smile Generation.
