GREENSBORO, NC - Henri Lartigue and Daniel Brito homered to lead the BlueClaws to an 11-5 win over Greensboro on Memorial Day at First National Bank Field, giving the BlueClaws seven wins in their last nine games.
Lakewood used a six-run fifth inning to blow open a 2-0 game and improve to 30-21 on the season, the first time they are nine games over .500 for the first time this season.
Greensboro (27-23) falls to 2-6 against the BlueClaws this year and Lakewood has taken all four meetings between the teams in May.
The BlueClaws got a SAC fly from Cord Sandberg in the second and RBI single by Raul Rivas in the fourth for a 2-0 lead, but it was the fifth inning when Lakewood blew the game open.
With one out, Mickey Moniak hit a two-run triple down the right field line for a 4-0 lead. After Darcik Hall's RBi single, Henri Lartigue followed with a three-run home run. It was Lartigue's first home run of the season and second of his professional career. The ball flew over the right field wall and hit Lartigue's headshot displayed on the big video board atop the right field fence.
Lakewood added three more in the sixth, including two on Daniel Brito's fourth home run of the season, which preceded an RBI single from Brett Barbier.
Meanwhile, BlueClaws starter JoJo Romero (3-1) continued his strong pitching, allowing two runs over 5.1 innings with a season-high seven strikeouts. Romero has allowed just nine earned runs over his last eight starts covering 46.1 innings pitched.
Greensboro starter Dylan Lee (3-5) lost his second straight start, both against Lakewood, after having won his previous three. He gave up seven runs, four earned, in 4.2 innings of work. Reliever Sam Perez gave up both home runs and was charged with four runs in 2.1 innings of work.
Every BlueClaws starter had a hit in the game, including three by Brett Barbier, his second three-hit game of the week. Darick Hall, Henri Lartigue, and Carlos Duran had two hits apiece in the victory. Moniak and Brito drove in two while Lartigue drove home three.
The teams continue their series on Tuesday night at 7:00. LHP Ranger Suárez (3-1) starts for Lakewood opposite Greensboro RHP LJ Brewster (4-2).
