INDIANAPOLIS -Justin Maffei made a leaping catch at the right-field wall to seal a nail-biting 5-4 win over the Louisville Bats Monday night at Victory Field. In front of 14,067 fans in attendance -- the second-largest home crowd of the season -- Indianapolis won in thrilling fashion after grabbing an early 4-0 lead.

The Indians (47-36) secured the series win behind early offense and stellar defense from start to finish. Facing Louisville's Robert Stephenson for a second time in two weeks, Indy pounced for two runs in the first. Christopher Bostick roped his league-leading 23rd double into the left-field corner before Erich Weiss smashed his third home run of the season to the right-field lawn.
Indianapolis doubled its lead in the third on another two-run home run. Jordan Luplow, playing in his fourth career Triple-A game, launched a towering drive to left for his first Triple-A dinger and 17th of the season. His homer plated Weiss who had doubled to start the frame.
The Bats (33-50) cut their deficit in half in the fifth against Tribe starter Tyler Eppler. Chad Wallach opened the inning with a homer to make it 4-1, and a two-out RBI triple by Phil Ervin brought the visitors closer.
Louisville pulled within one in the sixth on three singles against Brett McKinney, but Indy responded in the seventh with a run of its own to keep the margin at two.
Another two-out triple in the eighth, laced into the right-field corner by Zach Vincej, scored Alex Blandino. Johnny Barbato walked the tightrope in the ninth, issuing a pair of walks. Maffei saved the game, however, with a highlight-reel grab at the fence to take away extra bases from Darnell Sweeney, giving Barbato his second save.
Eppler (6-3) earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits over five innings pitched. He walked one and fanned four. Stephenson (1-2) suffered the loss after yielding four earned runs on six hits in five frames.
The Indians conclude their nine-game homestand with game one of a three-game series against Columbus Tuesday night. Indianapolis will send left-hander Steven Brault (6-3, 2.04) to the mound, opposite Clippers southpaw Ryan Merritt (6-5, 3.68). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
