CHARLESTON, SC - Sixto Sanchez threw five scoreless innings and the BlueClaws won a rain-shortened game 2-0 on Monday night at Riley Park.
Sanchez, who improved to 5-3 on the season, gave up three hits and walked three, the first time he's walked three hitters in the last two seasons. The 18-year old got out of a bases loaded, none out jam in the third inning, striking out Hoy Park and getting Diego Castillo to ground into a double-play to end the inning.
The BlueClaws (14-17/54-47) have taken two of the first three in the series from the RiverDogs (20-10/54-46).
Lakewood got on the board in the top of the third inning on an RBI triple from Mickey Moniak off RiverDogs starter Adonis Rosa. The BlueClaws added a run in the fifth inning when Arquimedes Gamboa scored on a groundout from Raul Rivas.
Gamboa, who tripled to reach base before scoring in the fifth, went 2-3 and has two hits in each of the last two games.
Rosa, who gave up two runs in 5.2 innings, fell to 3-3.
The win for the BlueClaws was their 18th shutout of the season, one off the franchise record set in 2006, and most in the league.
The series in Charleston wraps up on Tuesday at 12:05 pm. RHP Gustavo Armas (1-0) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Nick Green (6-6).
