Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes' offense was stifled by Trey Killian in the Lancaster JetHawks' 3-0 win on Monday night.
In front of 2,319 at LoanMart Field, the Quakes' offense was not able to get going against Killian. The right-hander threw seven shutout innings, only allowing two hits while striking out eight and not walking a batter. Entering the start on Monday, he was 0-5 with a 13.00 ERA in six starts in the second half, but he was dominate against Rancho.
Michael Boyle made the spot start for the Quakes and Lancaster was able to get to him in the first inning. With runners at first and second base, Hamlet Marte blasted a double into left-center field. Garrett Hampson scored easily from second, but after a dropped relay, Yonathan Daza tried to score from first base. He was thrown out at home for the second out of the inning and Boyle escaped with limited damage.
Boyle (4-2) was handed the loss even though he allowed just one run in three innings. He struck out two and walked one in his first start of the season for the Quakes.
Sven Schueller replaced Boyle on the mound and threw three strong, shutout innings out of the bullpen, but it was not enough.
In the eighth inning, the JetHawks were able to tack on against Dean Kremer. Collin Ferguson smacked a two-out, two-run single into right-center to make it a 3-0 lead.
JD Hammer locked down his seventh save of the season in the ninth inning for the JetHawks, allowing just one base hit to DJ Peters.
The Quakes were held to three hits on the day, the fewest they have had in a game since they had two in a shutout loss to Lake Elsinore on June 28th.
Rancho Cucamonga (19-12, 55-46) and Lancaster (17-14, 55-46) will matchup for the second game of a three-game set at LoanMart Field on Tuesday, July 25th, at 7:05 PM.
