INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Pirates, today announced that relief pitcher Angel Sanchez's contract was selected. Sánchez is the 15th Tribe player to be recalled or have his contract selected by Pittsburgh this season, and he will be the eighth to make his major league debut.

Sánchez, 27, posted a 3-5 record with one save and a 3.74 ERA (23 ER in 55.1 IP) in 39 relief appearances for Indy this season. He struck out 65 batters against just 15 walks (two intentional). The right-hander ranked fifth among International League qualifying relievers in both lowest BB/9.0 IP (2.11) and fewest baserunners/9.0 IP (10.90; 67 in 55.1 IP).
Born in Tenares, Dominican Republic, Sánchez originally signed with the Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent on July 12, 2010. He was later traded to Miami in July 2013 and was eventually claimed off waivers by the Pirates from the White Sox on July 3, 2014. He underwent Tommy John surgery on Sept. 16, 2015 and missed the entire 2016 season rehabbing.
He owns a 38-47 record and 4.41 ERA (331 ER in 675.1 IP) in 160 career minor league games (111 starts).
