INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians struggled in games decided by two runs or less early in the 2017 season, going 1-8 in such contests before a thrilling come-from-behind, 4-2 victory on April 23 against Scranton/W-B. The Tribe offense snapped a 26-inning scoreless drought while the staff sat down the final 24 RailRiders batters to earn the win.

The visitors plated two runs in the top of the first against Tribe hurler Drew Hutchison. The right-hander issued a one-out walk to Clint Frazier ahead of a run-scoring triple off the bat of Rob Refsnyder. Following another free pass, Rubén Tejada made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.
Scranton/W-B threatened to add to its lead in the second. A leadoff single and wild pitch preceded a Christopher Bostick error that put runners at second and third with no outs, but Hutchison struck out the side to begin the immaculate run by the pitching staff.
Indy's first scoring opportunity came in the third thanks to a leadoff walk and single, but the Tribe couldn't push a run across and trailed until the sixth. In that inning, a Bostick single and Max Moroff walk eventually led to a clutch two-run knock by Elias Díaz that evened the score at 2-2.
Cody Dickson then worked his second 1-2-3 inning in the seventh, and the Tribe took advantage of three walks after the stretch to set up an RBI infield single by Austin Meadows. The 3-2 score gave Indy its first lead of the three-game series.
The Indians added an insurance run in the eighth on an Eric Wood two-out double that brought around a speedy Gift Ngoepe from first, and Edgar Santana slammed the door in the ninth for his third save.
