Biloxi Shuckers second baseman Keston Hiura has been named to the 2018 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. He is the lone representative for the Brewers organization and will play for Team USA on July 15 at Nationals Park.
"It's an honor to be part of this game," said Hiura. "Speaking to Corey Ray very briefly about it, he said it's an awesome weekend and that I'll have the time of my life during the event. I'm very excited to be there and represent the Brewers and I'm looking forward to it."
Hiura earned a promotion to the Shuckers on June 1 after hitting .320 with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 23 RBI at High-A Carolina. After joining the Shuckers, Hiura hit safely in 12 of his first 14 games including seven multi-hit games. All told, the 21-year-old has hit .326 with 11 doubles, two home runs, four RBI and 16 runs scored in 24 games with Biloxi.
Taken ninth overall by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2017 out of UC-Irvine, Hiura becomes the fourth Biloxi Shuckers player to participate in the All-Star Futures Game. Shortstop Orlando Arcia went to the game at Great American Ballpark in 2015, lefty Josh Hader was a part of the game in 2016 at Petco Park, and shortstop Mauricio Dubón was one of three Brewers farmhands to attend the game in 2017 at Marlins Park. Current Shuckers outfielder Corey Ray made the trip to Marlins Park for the game in 2017 while he was a member of the Carolina Mudcats, and former Shuckers pitching coach Chris Hook served as the pitching coach for Team USA in 2015.
The 20th All-Star Futures Game kicks off the 2018 Major League Baseball All-Star festivities at Nationals Park on Sunday, July 15 at 3:00 PM CT. The game can be streamed on MLB.com and viewed on MLB Network.
