The Tennessee Smokies couldn’t overcome a big Montgomery Biscuits fifth inning, falling 7-1 on Saturday.
Richard Gallardo got the start for the Smokies. He worked four innings while surrendering eight hits and giving up six hits, four of which were earned. Blake Whitney relieved Gallardo and gave up just one run in two innings. Michael Arias worked two scoreless innings and Eduarniel Nunez closed out the ninth on the bump.
Tennessee’s defense didn’t help its staff much in the loss, committing four errors. The defensive miscues were highlighted in the fifth inning when an error helped the Biscuits plate five runs.
At the plate, leadoff batter Kevin Alcántara hit an opposite-field home run to score Tennessee’s only run of the night.
Up next: Tennessee wraps up the series with Montgomery on Sunday. First pitch in Smokies Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
