The Palm Beach Cardinals (15-12) were shut out by the Daytona Tortugas (17-10) by a final score of 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. It was the second time the Cardinals were shut out in the series previously losing 1-0 in game two of Wednesday's double header.

Both starting pitchers kept the runs off of the scoreboard through the first three innings. Palm Beach starting pitcher Chen-Wei Lin (L, 2-2) and the defense found themselves in trouble in the top of the fourth inning. Yerlin Confidan led off with a double for Daytona and with one out Alfredo Duno reached on an error by Cardinals third baseman Trey Paige scoring what ended up being the deciding run taking a 1-0 lead. Two batter later with two outs, Carter Graham would reach on Paige's second error scoring Duno which gave Daytona the early 2-0 lead. Both runs were unearned for Lin.

The score remained until the top of the sixth inning when with one out and runners at the corners, Graham hit a sacrifice fly scoring Duno to make it a 3-0 Tortugas lead. That run was the only earned run charged to Lin who finished his outing with 5 1/3 innings pitched. Daytona finished their scoring on the day with two more runs in the top of the eighth inning with back-to-back sacrifice flies from Esmith Pineda and Johnny Ascanio to push the lead to 5-0.

Meanwhile, Palm Beach would out-hit Daytona 7-5 but left eight men on base and could not score a run as the Cardinals were shut out 5-0 in the ballgame. Miguel Villarroel went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and extended his hit streak to five games. Maikel Hernandez went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk.

With the loss, Palm Beach remains in third place in the east division with Daytona remaining in second place in the east heading into Tuesday's slate of games.

Palm Beach will remain in Jupiter and will be the visiting team with the Jupiter Hammerheads coming home. The six-game "Dual of the Dean" series begins on Tuesday, May 8th at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. The Cardinals won the opening series between April 5-7 winning two of three games.
