AUBURN, NY - The Auburn Doubledays - Short Season A affiliate of the Washington Nationals - are excited to kick off the 2019 New York-Penn League season at the newly renovated Leo Pinckney Field at Falcon Park. The Doubledays will take on their Pinckney Division rivals a total of 64 games, three clubs from the Stedler Division for nine games and the Hudson Valley Renegades of the McNamara Division for three.
"We're all looking forward to getting things kicked off after such a successful season last year," said Doubledays general manager Adam Winslow. "We're counting down the days until our fans get to see their team in action."
Auburn opens the season on the road against the Batavia Muckdogs on June 14. In 15 games last season, the Doubledays compiled their best win-percentage against any team (.733) when they took 11 of their 15 matchups against their geographic rivals. Following their quick two-game series against the Muckdogs, Auburn will return to Falcon Park for their home opener against the State College Spikes for the first of 11 matchups before trekking West to face Batavia. After hosting the tail-end of a split series against the Muckdogs on June 20, the Doubledays will hit the road again to take on the Mahoning Valley Scrappers for a three-game series before another three-gamer against the Williamsport Crosscutters at home. The month of June will conclude with a two-game series against the Spikes on the road.
The Doubledays will play the West Virginia Black Bears six times in nine days to open up July - three times to open up a six-game home stand and three on the road following a series against the Muckdogs. Starting July 10, the Doubledays will start a six-game stretch facing Stedler Division opponents when they take on the Connecticut Tigers at home and the Lowell Spinners at home. Following another split series against the Muckdogs, Auburn will battle the West Virginia (home), Williamsport (away), and Mahoning Valley (home) before their away series against the Hudson Valley Renegades that will take them into August. While the Doubledays did not play the Renegades in the regular season last year, they were swept in the postseason, 0-2, after securing a wildcard spot.
Auburn will take on its last Stedler Division foe when the team battles the Tri-City ValleyCats August 2-4 to begin it's second six-game homestand of the season. The Doubledays will then compete on the road for six games against the Scrappers and Black Bears before returning home to take on the Crosscutters in their last homestand before the All-Star break (August 20-21). The 2019 regular season will conclude after a six-game homestand (August 22-27), a three-game road trip against the Crosscutters (August 28-30), and a split series with Batavia, which concludes in Auburn on September 2.
