Who Swept the 'Dogs Out? Auburn Defeats Batavia for Sweep

AUBURN, NY - While almost all canines are unable to perspire, there was no shortage of sweat in the helmets of the Muckdogs in their final game this series at Falcon Park. The Doubledays (8-6), however, ended the night by proving that they were indeed hot and the Muckdogs (6-8) are not.
The Doubledays pitching staff- with no need to keep any arms warm in the dugout tonight - rolled past the Muckdogs offense as Auburn ran away with a 4-2 win and back into the cool confines of the home clubhouse.
"Sitting in the dugout, we didn't get much of a breeze. It was pretty hot in there," said Doubledays manager Jerad Head. "I'm sure (the heat) does help - getting loose and getting warmed up. Probably doesn't take as long to warm up, especially for those bullpen guys. Man it was a hot one."
Yonathan Ramirez dazzled in his third straight outing after getting knocked for five earned runs during his season debut on June 16. He pitched five strong innings of one-run, three-hit ball and set the bar high for the rest of the Doubledays bullpen.
Auburn's offense picked up Ramirez early on after trailing 1-0 after three frames, putting the first of two crooked numbers on the scoreboard with a Gage Canning tater to right center field. It was Canning's second knock of the season, raising his OPS to .941 on the season.
Ramirez held the Muckdogs scoreless for the next two innings before exiting in the fifth, with Nector Ramirez doing his best to get Yonathan his first win of the season by pitching two shutout innings.
Auburn struck again in the sixth, putting up yet another two spot by making Batavia pay for walking the inning's first two batters. Juan Pascal, making his first start at first base since playing in the Dominican Summer League, lined a double to right field for the first run and Phil Caulfield connected on a single past second baseman Luke Jarvis for the second.
Jhonatan German started his outing a bit shaky by giving up a run in the eighth inning but had a smooth ninth to record his first save of the year.
The Doubledays will be back in action tomorrow at Williamsport for a 5:05PM start.
