Bluefield, VA - The Bluefield Blue Jays (10-2) defeated the Burlington Royals (2-10) by a score of 12-2 Sunday evening.
The Royals scored first in the ball game in the top of the first inning. Jeison Guzman led off the game with a triple, and later came in to score on a passed ball.
Bluefield immediately answered by scoring four runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third off Burlington starter Yerelmy Garcia.
The B-Royals got a run back in the top of the fifth inning when Dalton Griffin doubled and scored on an RBI groundout from Rafael Romero.
The Blue Jays followed by scoring two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to win the game 12-2.
The second game of the series is Monday night in Bluefield. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
