BURLINGTON, NC - The Burlington Royals (11-26) evened the three-game series with the Kingsport Mets (18-18) Saturday night with a 4-3 win. The bullpen led the way, allowing just one run over six and two-thirds innings of work.
Kingsport took the early lead in the game, scoring two runs in the second against Burlington starter Austin Cox. The Royals cut into the deficit in the third, when Eric Cole brought in Chris Hudgins with an RBI double to make it 2-1.
In the fourth, after having two outs and no one on base, the B-Royals put together a rally. Rhett Aplin walked, and then scored on an RBI triple from Bhret Bewley. Hudgins then blasted his second home run of the year to put the Royals ahead 4-2.
Ted Cillis, Marlin Willis and Kyle Hinton combined to give the Royals the final 20 outs of the game out of the bullpen and secured the 4-3 win.
The rubber game of the series will be Sunday evening at Burlington Athletic Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
