8/10 Recap - West Tenn 7, Carolina 1
Hill (W, 4-4) entered the ninth inning having retired 23 consecutive batters after allowing a flare single to Shaun Cumberland with one out in the ninth inning. Trailing 7-0, Carolina managed a pair of doubles in the frame to break the shutout. Justin Tordi doubled to start the inning, then scored on a double by Sean Henry that scraped off of the glove of third baseman Matt Mangini. Hill had thrown just 81 pitches through the first eight innings.
West Tenn (23-22), which remained two games behind first place Chattanooga, hit a pair of solo homers in the win, including one in the first inning by Marshall Hubbard. Hubbard hit his 12th off of a 3-1 pitch from starter Jeremy Horst (L, 0-3). Horst worked five innings, permitting 10 hits and five runs. Jerry Gil worked a pair of innings, allowing two runs, one of Travis Garcia's second home run in two games.
The Mudcats fell eight games in back of the Lookouts, who come to West Tenn to begin a five game series on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Carolina returns home off of a 3-7 road trip and hosts the Birmingham Barons on Wednesday night at Five County Stadium.
