JUPITER, Fla. (June 24, 2018) - Casey Meisner went seven scoreless innings Sunday to lead the Palm Beach Cardinals to a 7-1 win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Meisner (4-1) allowed just six hits over his seven spotless frames, striking out two and walking four. The Cardinals' (2-2, 41-27) win earned them a split of the second half's first series.
The Stone Crabs scored their only run in the top of the ninth. Jake Fraley doubled before a walk and an error brought him home to make it 7-1.
Fraley and Lucius Fox both reached base three times in defeat.
Palm Beach got the scoring going in the bottom of the second against Charlotte starter Benton Moss (1-1). J.B. Woodman doubled before advancing to third on a wild pitch and then came home on a throwing error.
Up 1-0 in the third, Palm Beach first baseman Juan Yepez doubled before going to third on a Kramer Robertson infield single. Yepez then scored on a fielder's choice before Moss escaped further trouble.
However, the Cardinals knocked out Moss in the fourth. Woodman clobbered a two-run home run to right before two more singles forced Moss to exit after three-plus frames, allowing four runs on eight hits.
J.D. Busfield worked two perfect innings before allowing three runs (two earned) to score in the sixth. Trevor Charpie turned in two scoreless in relief.
The Stone Crabs will enjoy an off day on Monday before visiting the Lakeland Flying Tigers for a three-game series starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
