Cervenak, Toledo light up Columbus on 4th of July

Third baseman leads Hens attack with homer, 3 RBI's
July 4, 2013

On the Fourth of July, no offensive fireworks were to be found for the Clippers as Toledo shut out Columbus 7-0 at Fifth-Third Field.

The Mud Hens were the first to crack the scoreboard when Bryan Holaday scored on an Argenis Diaz RBI groundout in the bottom of the third. Toledo tallied more runs in the fourth on a Mike Cervenak RBI single and a two run double by Danny Worth. T.J. House struggled on the mound for Columbus, giving up four runs on six hits while lasting only 3 2/3 innings.

Toledo lefty Ramon Garcia was very effective on the mound, blanking the Clippers on two hits in six innings of work. The Hens would continue to score with two runs in the sixth thanks to a Cervenak two run homer over the left field wall and one run in the eighth on a Ben Guez RBI double.

Garcia (W, 3-7) would go on to win the game for the Hens. House (L, 1-9) was hit with the defeat for the Clippers. The loss capped a dismal road trip for Columbus in which the Clippers only managed three wins in ten games.

After a long road trip, the Clippers finally return home to Huntington Park to begin a three game series with the Louisville Bats. Columbus will have righty Paulo Espino (0-4, 5.81) get the start on the mound. The Bats will choose right-hander Pedro Villareal (2-5, 5.62). First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM.
