Clippers beat Hens 3-2

Carson homers in Columbus win

The Clippers found a way to hang on to a victory over Toledo as they outlasted the Mud Hens 3-2 at Fifth Third Field.

Matt Carson got the Clippers on the board first with a solo shot over the left field wall in the top of the second. The Mud Hens then tied it on a Danny Dorn RBI double in the bottom half of the frame. Jordan Lennerton would later give Toledo a 2-1 lead with an RBI double off the right field wall.

Columbus made it a 2-2 affair in the top of the sixth when Jeremy Hermida plated a run with an RBI double to right. Moments later, Juan Diaz gave the Clippers a 3-2 lead with an RBI double down the left field line.

With the help of a nifty 3-6 double play turned by first baseman Chun Chen and shortstop Juan Diaz, the Clippers pulled out a victory against Toledo. Trevor Bauer (W, 4-2) got the win for Columbus. Toledo starter Pat Misch (L, 3-6) took the loss.

It will be a matchup of lefties as the Clippers and Hens get together for a Fourth of July edition of IL West baseball. Columbus with go with southpaw T.J. House (1-8, 5.66) while Toledo will counter with lefty Ramon Garcia (2-7, 6.67). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
