Knights double up Clippers 6-3

Hermida homers in loss to Charlotte
June 16, 2013

In their final game at Knights Stadium, the Columbus Clippers dropped a 6-3 decision to Charlotte.

The Knights struck offensively with a big third inning. Brent Morel lined a bases clearing double down the left field. The extra base hit by Morel plated three and gave Charlotte an early 3-0 lead. That would not last long as Jeremy Hermida clubbed a three run homer, his first home run since June 2nd, in the top of the fourth to tie things at 3-3.

Charlotte later reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a Bryan Anderson solo homer over the right field wall. That Knights advantage would be padded with a two run single by Tyler Greene in the bottom of the seventh.

Other than the three hit, three run third inning, Columbus only totaled five hits the rest of the game. Knights right-hander Michael Nix (W, 1-0) won his first game at the Triple-A level since 2008. Daisuke Matsuzaka (L, 0-3) was hit with the loss for the Clippers. Brian Omogrosso (S, 1) tallied his first save in 2013 for Charlotte.

The Clippers return home to Huntington Park to begin a four game series with the Pawtucket. The Red Sox will go with lefty Chris Hernandez (3-2, 4.38). The starter for Columbus has yet to be determined. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
