Red Sox blank Clippers 4-0

De La Rosa earns first win of 2013
June 17, 2013

Led by Dominican right-hander Ruby De La Rosa, the Pawtucket Red Sox shut out Columbus 4-0 in front of 12,088 patrons on a Dime-a-Night at Huntington Park.

The Red Sox got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Bryce Brentz led off the frame with a solo homer. That was later followed by an RBI single by Jeremy Hazelbaker.

Pawtucket then added two more runs in the top of the fifth. Drew Sutton laid down a sacrifice bunt which was picked up by Clippers starting pitcher Toru Murata. Murata, who had a play at third as Jackie Bradley went from second to third, threw wild to third allowing Bradley to easily score. Sutton, who advanced to second on the Murata error, later scored on Mitch Maier RBI single to make it a 4-0 affair.

Meanwhile, the Clippers had a very tough time solving Red Sox righty Ruby De La Rosa. De La Rosa struck out five in this game. He also walked five batters in 5 1/3 innings, but Columbus could not parlay any of those base runners into runs.

Columbus only tallied three hits on the night. Stranding seven base runners didn't help the cause either as they went on to be shut out for the ninth time in 2013. De La Rosa (W, 1-1) got the win for the Red Sox. Murata (L, 0-3) took the loss for the Clippers.

Pawtucket and Columbus will be back at it on Tuesday night. Right-hander Joe Martinez (2-5, 6.48) will get the start on the mound for the Clippers. Pawtucket will tap the services of lefty Chris Hernandez (3-2, 4.38). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
