Jamestown Offense Explodes In Last Inning
AUBURN, NY - The Doubledays (13-28) split the two-game series with the Jamestown Jammers (26-14) after Monday night's 8-4 loss at Falcon Park.
After a brief rain delay to start the game, the Doubledays struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning with back-to-back RBI singles from Brenton Allen and David Masters. Allen went 2-for-4 on the night with a pair of RBI's.
Despite the loss, Auburn's Jake Johansen (0-1, 0.99 ERA) pitched another great start. Johansen dealt 5 innings of shut-out ball, giving up only 4 hits and a walk and tallying 6 strikeouts. He did not factor into Monday night's decision.
The Jammers scored seven runs in the top of the 9th inning including four straight RBI singles by their 5 through 8 hitters. Highlighting their offense was Matt Weiss who went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI. With a 4-1 lead starting the inning, the blown save was charged to L.J. Hollins (0-3) as well as the eventual game loss.
The Doubledays used two pitchers for the first 7 2/3 innings, and 3 in the last 1 1/3.
Looking to get back on track, the Doubledays begin a three game set in Lowell, Massachusetts against the Spinners (22-18) Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
