Dust Devils Toss Shutout in Series Opener

August 9, 2017

[Empty Body]

The pitching staff again led the way for the Tri-City Dust Devils (8-5, 28-23) on Tuesday night as the team beat the Vancouver Canadians 3-0 at Nat Bailey Stadium. The shutout was the Northwest League-high sixth of the season for the Dust Devils.
Four Tri-City pitchers, Ben Sheckler, Travis Radke, Andres Munoz, and Fred Schlichtholz, combined to keep Vancouver scoreless. Radke entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, inheriting a bases-loaded jam. The southpaw got a crucial strikeout of Deiferson Barreto to get the Dust Devils out of trouble. At the plate Matt Batten delivered two hits for Tri-City and scored the team's first run of the night. The win combined with Spokane's loss to Everett on Tuesday night moves the Dust Devils one game back of first place in the North Division.
Right-hander Henry Henry will start the second game of the three-game series on Wednesday night. The Canadians will counter with right-hander Jose Espada. The team will return to Gesa Stadium on Friday night for a five-game series against the Hillsboro Hops. Friday will be Star Wars Night presented by Gesa Credit Union and a $1 Family Feast Night sponsored by CO-Energy. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
