Resilient Dust Devils Win in Extras

August 27, 2017

[Empty Body]

An explosive stretch at the plate boosted the Tri-City Dust Devils (18-13, 38-31) to the 8-3 win in extra innings over the Hillsboro Hops on Saturday night at Ron Tonkin Field. Robbie Podorsky hit a three-run home run, the first of his professional career, which expand Tri-City's lead in the eleventh inning.
Ben Sheckler delivered another strong performance on the mound for the Dust Devils. The 6-foot-8 hurler allowed only one earned run in seven innings of work. Two unearned runs came off of Sheckler in the bottom of the eighth inning, allowing Hillsboro to tie the game. The two teams remained tied until the eleventh inning. Tre Carter hit his second run-producing triple of the game to give the Dust Devils back the lead. Four batters later Podorsky's blast broke the game open, giving Tri-City an advantage that proved to be insurmountable for the Hops.
Left-hander Aaron Leasher will start the second game of the five-game road series for the Dust Devils on Sunday afternoon. Hillsboro will counter with right-hander Jhoan Duran. First pitch will be at 4:05 pm. Tri-City will return home on September 1st to begin a three-game series against the Vancouver Canadians, which will be the final series of the regular season. September 1st will be a $1 Family Feast Night presented by CO-Energy and WSU Cougar Night at Gesa Stadium.
