Superb Pitching Not Enough

September 2, 2017

[Empty Body]

Despite only allowing one unearned run the Tri-City Dust Devils (20-16, 40-34) fell to the Vancouver Canadians 1-0 on Friday night at Gesa Stadium. The Spokane Indians also lost on Friday, keeping the Dust Devils only one game out of first place in the North Division with two games remaining.
Nick Margevicius once again twirled a gem for Tri-City. The southpaw did not allow a run in five innings of work and had a career-high ten strikeouts. The Dust Devils broke the Northwest League record for most strikeouts by a pitching staff in a single season, surpassing the mark of 735 previously held by the 1997 Everett AquaSox. The Eugene Emeralds have also collected more than 735 strikeouts this season, creating a race between the two teams to see who will ultimately set the new league record. An error committed by Luis Almanzar helped Vancouver score the only run of the game in the eighth inning.
Left-hander Ben Sheckler will start the middle game of the three-game series on Saturday night. The Canadians will counter with right-hander Justin Dillon. There will be a postgame fireworks show after Saturday's game presented by Nuclear Care Partners. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
