Become An Elizabethton Twins Host Family

By Elizabethton Twins | March 22, 2017 3:22 PM ET

The Elizabethton Twins are now accepting applications for families to host players during the 2017 season.

Since the Elizabethton Twins inception in 1974, host families in our community have played an essential role in keeping professional baseball alive and well here. The Elizabethton Twins Host Family Program has helped hundreds of young men adjust to life as a professional baseball player by providing them with a welcoming home for the summer as they begin their journey to the big leagues.

Host families are financially compensated and additionally, will be given season tickets to come watch their player develop during their time in Elizabethton. All players on the Elizabethton Twins are either drafted or signed as a free-agent and are under contract with the Minnesota Twins. If you are interested in hosting Twins players for the season, please see the details below.

Ideal Host Families:

Committed to the entire season (late June-early September).

Live within 15 Miles of Joe O'Brien Field.

Provide room and board in a safe and clean environment.

Players will need to have their own room (if hosting more than one player, two can share a room, provided they have their own beds) and have access to a bathroom, laundry, and refrigerator.

Players are required to provide food for themselves, but a home cooked meal every now and then is always appreciated. Some host families may also compensate for providing groceries and cooking for all meals, this is entirely up to the host parent.

Assistance with transportation may be helpful for some players, but this is not required.

The host family should have their own set of house rules that the player will be required to follow, but should be aware that players often arrive home late at night after games or after a road trip.

Why do we request host families:

Players make a very low salary, since Elizabethton is typically a players first step or entry level to professional baseball.

Due to frequent organizational transactions, some players might be in Elizabethton for a brief amount of time and then leave on short notice.

Finding an apartment for a 3-month lease is very difficult.

Players spend very few hours at home.

Host families help players adjust to life as a professional baseball player, typically all players are signed right out of high school or college.

The Elizabethton Twins and the Minnesota Twins hope you consider this opportunity to open your home to a player this season. Please contact Kelly at kkitchens@cityofelizabethton.org or stop by the Twins front office or call Karen at 423-416-1062 with any questions you may have or to request consideration to be a host family.
