Since 1974 the Minnesota Twins have been sending their Minor League Professional Baseball Players to Elizabethton. One hundred and eighteen former E-Twins players have made it to the Big Leagues. Elizabethton is known for its winning tradition as the E-Twins have won 11 Appalachian League Titles and currently have a streak of 29 consecutive winning seasons.
The combination of winning seasons, a strong fan base, and dozens of former Major League stars that began their career in Elizabethton has made Joe O'Brien Field a great Minor League attraction. This great success has seen dozens of Major League players have passed through Elizabethton on their way to the Big Leagues. Most notable alumni include Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbek, A.J. Pierzynski, Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer, Brian Dozer, Max Kepler, Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton, Jorge Polanco. Over 120 former Elizabethton Twins players have made it the majors.
