Cardinals Unveil Party Deck Design

April 13, 2016

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Johnson City Cardinals have released the first renditions of their new Party Deck/Beer Garden addition to TVA Credit Union Ballpark for the 2016 season.

As part of over $400,000 in renovations for the upcoming year, the newly constructed area will serve as a hub for group outings, and will also be open to the public on nights it is not reserved. The two tier deck will be constructed on the third base side between the existing bleachers and the group pavilion. It will feature drink rails and seating on both levels, and will be designed so that views of home plate are unobstructed.

"At the end of the day, I think the community is really going to enjoy this," added Boyd Sports President Chris Allen. "It's a great old ballpark, and you're going to see it come to life with the new amenities. We're still in the design process, and it does not yet have a name, but it should accommodate from 150 to 200 people."

"The name of the game in our business is sponsorships and ticket sales, and one way to improve revenues is with group sales. Our construction team has gutted the old locker rooms, and the beer garden will be the next project."

While beer, soft drinks and snacks will be served in the new area, groups can also take advantage of the Cardinal's partnership with local restaurant Hokie Smokie for catering options.

"We are very excited to partner with a local establishment like Hokie Smokie," added General Manager Tyler Parsons. "We have seen a tremendous response from groups in the area, and anyone who has ate at their restaurant knows the food speaks for itself. It's going to be a terrific partnership and we look forward to welcoming everyone to this new area."

The design of the deck was conceptualized by Thomas Weems Architects, and is still subject to change pending approval from Johnson City Commission. Thomas Weems is a former board member of the Johnson City Sports Foundation, the non-profit who ran the Johnson City Cardinals prior to the switch to Boyd Sports in January.
