Johnson City Draws Over 53,000 Fans

October 3, 2016

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Johnson City Cardinals previously set a new single-season attendance record on Tuesday, August 30th by welcoming their 48,039th fan through the gates of TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The new mark eclipsed the 48,038 total from the 1994 campaign, but with several regular season games left and a potential playoff run, the team wasn't done yet.

As Cardinals fans know by now, the team advanced all the way to the Appalachian League Championship, claiming their fourth crown in the past seven years. Series wins over the Elizabethton Twins in the Divisional Round and Burlington Royals in the Championship Round added three additional home games to the Cardinals schedule.

The result was not only another championship, but a new single season attendance mark of 53,444.

"It's amazing to be out in this community and hear all the positive feedback from fans and businesses. This was a special season and we have to thank each and every person who supported this organization," added Cardinals GM Tyler Parsons. "I believe our growth and momentum is all linked together with the rest of Johnson City, which is seeing a bit of a resurgence, especially in the downtown district. It's an exciting time to be in Johnson City and an exciting time to be involved with the Cardinals."

This past season marked the first year for the Johnson City Cardinals under the new ownership of the Boyd Sports, LLC. In addition to the Johnson City Cardinals, Boyd Sports, LLC operates the Tennessee Smokies, who also saw a season attendance record break this year at Smokies Stadium.

While the 2016 season is officially in the books, TVA Credit Union Ballpark is still seeing plenty of use. In the past several weeks the Cardinals have held a group outing for Katz Americas and hosted the 2016 Tri-Cities Heart Association Walk. They have upcoming events with Net Elite Baseball for a two-day tournament and will also host the CAC Homerun Derby Fundraiser. TVA Credit Union Ballpark is also the home of the annual Turkey Trot put on by the Parks and Recreation Department of Johnson City.
