Cardinals Lose Finale to Rays

PRINCETON, WV - After splitting the first two doubleheaders with Princeton, the Cardinals looked to win game five and take the series. The Cardinals were in a close game until an hour-long rain delay hit and then the Rays' bats exploded as they would go on to win 13-5.
The Rays got the scoring started with one run in the second and third inning and took a 2-0 lead into the top of the fourth. The Cardinals tied the game in the top of the fourth when DarielGomez reached on an error. Then MichaelPerri launched a two-run homerun (4) to tie the game at two. 
ColinSchmid started the game for the Cardinals. Schmid went 4.1 innings, surrendered six hits, five earned runs, two walks, and notched five strikeouts, but he would take his second loss of the season.
The Cardinals put another run on the board in the top of the fifth when LeandroCedeno hit a solo homerun (10) to straight away centerfield to put the Cardinals ahead 3-2. After an hour + long rain delay, the Rays exploded for four runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. 
The Rays scored one more in the sixth to make it 7-3, but the Cardinals answered with one in the top of the seventh when LiamSabino hit a solo homerun (2), his second in two days to pull the Cardinals to within three, 7-4. 
The Rays did not quit as they put a run on the board in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 8-4. The Cardinals answered with one run on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth when MoisesCastillo singled with one out. Then with two outs, LiamSabino walked to put runners on first and second. LuisFlores singled to right field and Castillo scored from second to make the score 8-5 in favor of the Rays. Unfortunately the Rays put five on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth and would win 13-5.
The Cardinals used two relievers after ColinSchmid. EnriquePerez was first out of the bullpen. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, and notching two strikeouts. JakeSylvester was the last reliever used. Sylvester pitched 1.1 innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs, one walk, and getting two strikeouts.
The Cardinals will play two doubleheaders against Elizabethton. One on Sunday and one on Monday. First pitch in game one is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, game two will start 30 minutes after game one ends. Game two will resume from the suspended game on 8/2 when Elizabethton played at TVA Credit Union Ballpark and the game was suspended in the top of the third due to heavy rain making the field unplayable.
