Cardinals Take Game 1 Against Danville in Extras

DANVILLE, VA - After winning 2/3 against the Bluefield Blue Jays, the Cardinals took on the Danville Braves for the first time this season and looked to get a win. It would take 10 innings, but the Cardinals would get the job done and win their third extra innings game

DANVILLE, VA - After winning 2/3 against the Bluefield Blue Jays, the Cardinals took on the Danville Braves for the first time this season and looked to get a win. It would take 10 innings, but the Cardinals would get the job done and win their third extra innings game of 2018 5-3 against the Braves. 
Tommy Parsons got the start for the Cardinals, his third of the season. Parsosns did not factor in the decision, but he pitched a season high five strong innings, allowing eight hits, two earned runs, and tallied three strikeouts
The Braves started the scoring in the bottom of the first with one run. Johnson City scored two in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Kevin Woodall led off with a walk. With one out, Leandro Cedeno worked a walk as well. Zach Jackson grounded out but Cedeno and Woodall advanced. With runners on second and third, Donivan Williams singled to drive in both Woodall and Cedeno.
The Braves answered quickly with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 3-2. The Cardinals responded with a run in the top of the fifth. Michael Perri led off with a double and Brandon Riley singled, Perri advanced to third on the single. With Carlos Soto batting, a wild pitch allowed Perri to score from third to tie the game at 3 apiece. 
Both teams were shut out until the top of the tenth when Johnson City scored two to make it 5-3 and then win after Parker Kelly closed out the bottom of the tenth. Michael Perri started on second and with one out Carlos Soto singled to advance Perri to third. With runners at the corners, Kevin Woodall hit a sac fly to score Perri from third and give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead. Dariel Gomez singled to move Luis Flores, who pinch ran for Soto, to second. With first and second and and two outs, Leandro Cedeno singled to score Flores from second and give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead.
The Cardinals used three pitchers after Tommy Parsons. Enrique Perez was first out of the bullpen. Perez went two innings, giving up only one hit, and had one strikeout. Jake Sylvester was the second out of the bullpen for Johnson City. Sylvester went one inning, and gave up only one hit. Parker Kelly, the final reliever used got the win his third of the season. Kelly went two innings, giving up two hits and notching a strikeout to secure the 5-3 win.
The Cardinals take on the Braves tomorrow and Monday, then head to Pulaski for three games. First pitch slated for 4:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
