JOHNSON CITY CARDINALS ANNOUNCE 2019 OPENING NIGHT ROSTER

JOHNSON CITY - The Johnson City Cardinals have announced their 35-man roster for Opening Night, which will take place Tuesday, June 18. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. ET and first pitch will be thrown at 6:30 p.m. ET. The 35-man roster includes 12 members of the 2019 St. Louis Cardinals draft class.

JOHNSON CITY - The Johnson City Cardinals have announced their 35-man roster for Opening Night, which will take place Tuesday, June 18. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. ET and first pitch will be thrown at 6:30 p.m. ET. 
The 35-man roster includes 12 members of the 2019 St. Louis Cardinals draft class. This group is headlined by ninth-round selection Todd Lott, who hit .332 with 8 home runs and 48 RBIs at Louisiana-Lafayette this season. It also includes 10th-round selection Jake Sommers, a promising young right-hander who struck out 37 in 30 innings of work this past season at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The Opening Night roster includes two position players ranked in the top-10 of the Cardinals farm system by MLB.com. Outfielder Jhon Torres is ranked the No. 5 prospect in the Cardinals organization by MLB Pipeline. The 19-year-old sensation from Sincelejo, Colombia made major waves in the Gulf Coast League last season, hitting .397 with four home runs and 14 RBIs in 17 games after being acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Indians organization. 
He is joined by Malcom Nuñez, an 18-year-old third baseman from Havana, Cuba who hit .415 with 13 home runs, 16 doubles and 59 RBIs in 2018 as part of the Dominican Summer League. Nuñez is MLB Pipeline's No. 6 prospect. 
This year's roster will feature four players who appeared on the Johnson City roster in 2018. LHP Enrique Perez , catchers Brandon Purcell  and Zach Jackson , and infielder Liam Sabino all return to open the 2019 season. 
The roster is drawn from eight different countries (United States, Puerto Rico, Panama, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia). The American players are drawn from 12 different states (New York, California, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Florida, Mississippi, Missouri, Georgia, Texas, Maryland, Michigan, Oregon), and there are 16 players on the Opening Night roster with American collegiate playing experience.
