JOHNSON CITY, TN - After two monster offensive games for Johnson City, game three was more of a pitchers' duel. Johnson City would lose the finale 3-2, but win the series against Bluefield 2-1.
Dionis Zamora got the start for the Cardinals, his fourth start since being called up from the GCL Cardinals on June 24th. Zamora did not factor in the decision, but he went 5.1 strong innings, allowing only three hits, one earned run, and had a season-high eight strikeouts.
The Blue Jays got the scoring started in the top of the fourth with one run. The Cardinals didn't answer until the bottom of the seventh when Zach Jackson reached on a wild pitch third strike. Sanel Rosendo walked with one out and Jackson moved to second. He advanced to third on a flyout from Michael Perri. Then with Moises Castillo batting, Sanel Rosendo stole second and Jackson stole home on the throw to second to tie the game at one. Then Castillo singled to left field and Rosendo scored to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead at the end of seven innings.
The Blue Jays managed to break through with one run in the eighth to tie the game at two and then with one in the ninth to take the lead and win the finale 3-2.
The Cardinals used two pitchers after Dionis Zamora. David Oca was first out of the bullpen. Oca went 2.1 innings, giving up only one hit, one earned run and notched three strikeouts. Junior Gonzalez was the second and final reliever used by the Cardinals. He took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season. Gonzalez went 1.1 innings, giving up one hit, one earned run and two walks.
