On Saturday night, the Jupiter Hammerheads pushed their winning streak to six games at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. The Hammerheads staved off the comeback attempt from the Daytona Tortugas to win 5-3.

The Hammerheads were aided by an MLB All-Star, as Marlins' first baseman Garrett Cooper suited up for Jupiter. The California native began his rehab assignment with the Hammerheads after being hit by a pitch and suffering a right wrist contusion on July 23rd. Cooper went scored a run and finished 1-3 with a single.

Daytona scored the first run of the game in the second inning on a Sebastian Almonte RBI single. It would be the only run for the Tortugas until a late comeback push in the ninth.

For the Hammerheads, they first got on the scoreboard in the fifth with a trio of runs. Kahlil Watson drew a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game. Then, Yiddi Cappe would score after Joe Mack hit into a double play. Cooper would score the third run of the inning after an RBI single from Payton Henry, who is also rehabbing with the Hammerheads currently.

In the sixth, Cappe hit his first triple of the season, which scored Javier Sanoja. The Cuban’s extra-base hit had an exit velocity of 102.2 MPH. Carlos Santiago would add another run for Jupiter in the eight with a sac fly that also scored Sanoja. The 16th RBI for Santiago made it a 5-1 game going into the ninth.

Daytona would add some pressure with a pair of runs in the last frame. Hayden Jones would score on a wild pitch, and Yassel Pino would hit a sac fly, but it wouldn’t be enough.

Righthander Gabe Bierman turned in another strong performance for the Hammerheads. The Indiana native pitched seven innings and kept Daytona at bay all night. The former Hoosier gave up one unearned run, three hits, and finished with eight strikeouts on the night.

Edison Suriel followed and allowed just one hit in one inning of work. Cason Sherrod would work the ninth inning as Jupiter added another win to their record.

The Hammerheads and Tortugas will finish their series on Sunday afternoon at RDCS. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
