Less than 24 hours after winning a slugfest, Jupiter wins a 2-1 pitching duel against the Palm Beach Cardinals.

Matt Givin, Jupiter’s starter, pitched six innings of three hit baseball in his second start of the season. The Boston native allowed only one run while striking out six Cardinals on Saturday night. However, his counterpart Nick Trogrlic-Iverson, Palm Beach’s starter, also had an impressive outing. Trogrlic-Iverson pitched seven innings without giving up a run.

Jupiter’s bullpen also showed off on Saturday night. First it was Edison Suriel, who came in and pitched a perfect seventh inning for the Hammerheads. Following close behind was two-way prospect Sean Reynolds, who started at first base Friday night. The 6-foot-8 righty pitched two innings and picked up his first professional win. Reynolds struck out three batters and hit 94mph with his fastball.

It took the Hammerheads until the eighth inning before they were able to get a run across. Federico Polanco got things going with a RBI triple, which scored Troy Johnston. Polanco would then score after a fly out and a throwing error on Jupiter’s next plate appearance. The one-run lead would hold up through the ninth inning giving Jupiter the win.

The Hammerheads have now won their last two games against the Cardinals and lead the series 3-2 with the final contest of the six-game set for Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm and fans can listen online HERE.
