The Jupiter Hammerheads drop both games in Wednesday’s doubleheader against the visiting Daytona Tortugas. Following a postponement on Tuesday, the two teams squared off in two seven-inning games at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium

For the first time since June 19th, the Hammerheads were back home. However, their welcome party did not get off to the start they were hoping for. In the first game, the Hammerheads were slowed down by Daytona pitcher Bruce Bonnin. The righty pitched five perfect innings and struck out 11 Hammerheads in his 2021 debut.

Jupiter did manage to break up the no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth inning courtesy of Jan Mercado. The catcher blasted his first home run of the season and the second of his career.

Dax Fulton started the first game for the Hammerheads. The Marlins' 8th overall prospect allowed only two earned runs in five innings of work. Jefry Yan and Robinson Martinez came in as relief, but Jupiter ultimately would lose 9-1.

The Hammerheads turned to Chris Mokma for game two. The Michigan native allowed only one earned run and tallied nine strikeouts in his ninth start of the season. The righty also didn’t allow a walk in his six innings pitched.

Like game one, the Hammerheads relied on their catcher to break up a no-hitter with a homer. However, this time it was Cameron Barstad who connected with a 408 feet home run to centerfield. It was Barstad’s team-leading fourth longball of the season. The former sixth-round pick finished with two of Jupiter’s four hits in the second game.

Jason Parker toed the rubber for Daytona in game two, and he followed closely behind Bonnin from game one. The righty finished with 10 strikeouts in six innings. Daytona would hold strong and win the second game by a score of 3-1.

The Hammerheads and Tortugas will continue their six-game series on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
