Hammerheads Score Early and Late for Win on Sunday

The Jupiter Hammerheads defeated the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 9-4 in a rain-shortened game to clinch the series on Sunday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

Yiddi Cappe and Jacob Berry each logged two-RBIs in the eighth inning before a storm cell rolled over the Jupiter ballpark and stopped play with one out in the home half. The tarp was not ordered to be put on the playing surface, and the game was promptly declared officially finished with the home team leading by five runs.

Jupiter opened the game with a four-run first inning, with a three-run single E9 from Torin Mongomery and a Cameron Barstad RBI double with two outs. The Mighty Mussels responded with their own four-run frame to tie the game just one inning later, a score that stood until Cappe singled to score Angeudis Santos in the sixth inning to make it 5-4.

The top four spots in the order went a combined 7-17 on Sunday, with Berry leading the way with a 3-4 afternoon. Cappe, Brady Allen, and Camron Barstad logged two hits a piece.

Jake Schrand earned his fifth win of the year out of the bullpen with two and 2/3 scoreless innings. Kyle Crigger collected a one-out save in the abbreviated victory. Jean Reyes and Luarbert Arias combined for three and 1/3 innings in relief.

With the win, the Hammerheads improve to 55-50 overall and 21-20 in the second half of the Florida State League season. They embark on a six-game road trip to the Dunedin Blue Jays, with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The Hammerheads are next at home on August 23 against the Daytona Tortugas.
