The Jupiter Hammerheads take the series opener after a walk-off single from Cristhian Rodriguez in the 10th inning, as the game finishes with a final score of 3-2 on Tuesday night.

With two outs and Noah Williamson standing on third base, Rodriguez was due up for the Hammerheads. The Venezuelan native got the job done on a 1-2 pitch with a line drive single to left field. Williamson was able to easily trot home as Jupiter swarmed the field to celebrate with Rodriguez.

Prior to the extra innings drama, Jupiter tallied their first run in the second inning. Jorge Caballero scored courtesy of a Tanner Allen triple to center field. Jupiter would score again in the third inning thanks to another triple. This time it was centerfielder Javier Sanoja racing the bases for the three-bagger. Ian Lewis was able to easily score on the play to put Jupiter up 2-0 early.

The Hammerheads would hold the 2-0 advantage until Tampa tallied a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Anthony Hall scored on a fielding error and moments later Jared Serna would score on a sacrifice fly from Nelson Medina.

The two teams would remain deadlocked at two runs a piece until the walk-off.

Jupiter’s starter Jared Poland had another impressive performance on the mound. The former Louisville Cardinals hurler pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) for the Hammerheads. The righty also struck out four batters and now holds a 1.69 ERA on the season.

Out of the bullpen, Jupiter first turned to Breidy Encarnacion. The Dominican Republic native pitched 2.2 scoreless innings allowing just one hit. Evan Taylor would finish the game for the Hammerheads, pitching the final 1.1 innings without allowing a hit. The lefty struck out three batters and earned his first win of the season.

The two teams will continue their series on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Join in on the fun for Silver Sluggers and Baseball Bingo. Tickets are available here
