The Jupiter Hammerheads win their fourth straight game and third of the series on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Jupiter came from behind to outlast the Dunedin Blue Jays 5-3.
Neither team gained traction until the fourth inning. Dunedin started the inning by scoring a pair of runs, while Jupiter responded with a run of their own. For the Hammerheads, it was a two-run homer from Jose Salas. It was the third home run of the season for the Marlins' No. 7 prospect on MLB Pipeline. The ball had an exit velocity of 102.7 MPH as it easily cleared the fence in right field.
The two clubs would stay at a 2-1 stalemate until the eighth inning. The Blue Jays would briefly take the lead after plating two runs in the frame. A double followed up by a single scored the duo and give the Jays a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom half, the Hammerheads would respond with three runs of their own. A wild pitch would score Osiris Johnson and tie the game at three. Then a couple of batters later, Zach Zubia would give the Hammerheads the lead with an RBI single to center field. Jupiter would add one more insurance run as Brady Allen came home on a wild pitch.
Leading 5-3, the Hammerheads would bring in Patrick Murphy to close out the game. The lefty pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save of the season and give Jupiter the win.
Johnson finished the night 3-4 and is now 8-16 since moving into the lead-off spot on June 12th. Salas picked up two RBI on the night and now has 19 for the season.
On the mound, Edgar Sanchez made his ninth start of the season. The righty pitched five innings and allowed just one run. Out of the bullpen, Jupiter leaned on Yoilan Quinonez and Jake Schrand before turning to Murphy in the ninth. Quinonez pitched two innings and didn’t allow a hit on Thursday night. Schrand worked one frame and earned his third win of the season for Jupiter.
The two clubs will play again on Friday night at RDCS. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM as the stadium hosts an All-You-Can-Eat-Night at the ballpark! Tickets are available here
