The Jupiter Hammerheads drop Saturday night’s game to the St. Lucie Mets 6-3 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

Jupiter was aided by a couple of rehabbers in the game. On the mound was Dylan Floro. The right-hander is beginning his MLB rehab with Jupiter. As one of the Marlins’ late-game relievers last season, Floro has been dealing with shoulder soreness and was unable to play during Spring Training. Joining Floro in Jupiter was infielder Isan Diaz. The middle infielder played one game for the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp before landing on the Injured List.

Floro only pitched two-thirds of an inning while allowing two runs. Diaz started at second base and went 0-4 with one walk on the night.

St. Lucie jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with Floro still in the game. Heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Mets led 3-0. During that half-inning, Jupiter’s Jan Mercado put the Hammerheads on the board with a two-RBI double. The catcher’s double had an exit velocity of 109.1 MPH before ricocheting off the wall.

Jupiter would add another run in the bottom of the sixth when Angeudis Santos scored Mercado. The line-drive single would tie the game 3-3. Unfortunately, the Mets tacked on two more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to win by a final score of 6-3.

Both clubs struggled with strikeouts in Friday’s contest, resulting in 30 combined Ks. The Hammerheads struck out 16 times while the Mets were punched out 14 times.

Following Floro’s appearance, Gabe Bierman came into the ball game and pitched 5.1 innings. The former Indiana Hoosier struck out nine batters, one shy of his career-high, and allowed just one run. The righty’s ERA now sits at 1.88 on the season.

The Hammerheads and Mets will face off in the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon at RDCS. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm
