After being rained out on Thursday, the Jupiter Hammerheads and Daytona Tortugas played another doubleheader on Friday. The two East Coast teams split Friday’s twin-bill, with Daytona winning the first contest 1-3, and Jupiter finishing the nightcap with a 3-0 victory.
In the first game, the Hammerheads struck first. Chase Luttrell connected for his seventh home run of the season to give Jupiter a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Hammerheads would hold onto that lead until the sixth inning when Daytona scored a trio of runs.
At the plate, Jupiter only tallied three hits in the first game, with Luttell’s homer being the only extra-base hit of the game.
On the mound, Brandon White pitched five shutout innings. The 23-year-old gave up just two hits and four strikeouts without issuing any walks. Riskel Tineo came into the game out of the bullpen and allowed the three-run homer to Daytona.
Jupiter was able to flip the momentum in the second game and ended with a 3-0 shutout. Cole Kirschseiper followed in White’s footsteps from Game One and put forth a great outing for Jupiter. The Illinois product pitched six shutout innings in a seven-inning game and allowed just three hits while striking out four batters.
Evan Taylor would come into the game for the final inning and pitch a shutout seventh inning to earn his 15th save of the season.
Offensively, Jupiter still struggled to string together consecutive hits, but connected when it mattered most. The Hammerheads scored twice in the second inning. First Carlos Santiago earned an RBI after driving in Brock Vradenburg. Then, Mark Coley hit an RBI double to make it a 2-0 game.
Jupiter would score one more time in the bottom of the fifth inning as Spencer Bramwell picked up his first RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Following the split doubleheader, the Hammerheads and Tortugas will continue their series at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches on Saturday with Margaritaville Night. Come out to the ballpark for live music, giveaways, specialty jerseys, and more! First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM with gates opening at 4:30 PM!
