The Greeneville Reds jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the middle innings and held on late to take the third game of the set from Kingsport by a 5-4 score.
The Reds got a breakout game from their 2018 first-round draft pick (number five overall) Jonathan India. India reached in four of his five plate appearance, and finished the night 3-4, just a triple shy of the cycle.
Among those three hits was a go-ahead home run in the third, the first of his professional career.
Jonathan Willems continued his impressive series with a big two-run double in the fourth for Greeneville to balloon the lead out to 5-2.
However, the game was not without its bright moments for Kingsport and the Mets didn't go quietly.
A booming two-run home run by Mets 2018 first-round draft pick (number six overall) Jarred Kelenic brought the home crowd to its feet and cut the deficit to just one. Kelenic finished 2-3 and reached base safely three times.
The Mets would get the tying run on base in each of the last three innings, but some clutch pitching from Reds' relievers Justin McGregor and Connor Bennett preserved the win for Greeneville.
Other bright spots for Kingsport included Shervyen Newton, who went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, and the Mets trio of relievers (Mitch Hickey, Luis Silva, and Nelson Leon) who threw five scoreless innings.
The Mets will try to take the series tomorrow night in the fourth and final game. Tomorrow night the first 300 fans through the gates will receive a "Kingsport Mets Bobblehead T-Shirt," compliments of Johnson City Eye Clinic, Thompson Electric, Sport Clips, & Southern Sports Cards.
Gates will open at 5:30 pm and first pitch is set for 6:30 pm.
