The Bristol Pirates were able to salvage the third game of the series with a 12-5 victory over the Kingsport Mets Sunday afternoon.
The Mets struck first, as they have been doing often of late. In the bottom of the first, after a Yoel Romero leadoff walk and stolen base, Jarred Kelenic lined a single to center to plate the speester Romero for the game's first run.
The first inning run is nothing new to K-Mets fans, as Kingsport scored in the first inning in all six games of this home stand.
However, Bristol would take advantage of K-Mets miscues to blow the game wide open.
After an error on starter Matt Cleveland extended the third inning, Mason Martin homered to deep right to give Bristol a 2-1 lead.
In the fouth, Cleveland should have been out of the inning after four batters, but the inning was extended by two more Mets errors.
The Pirates made Kingsport pay with six runs in the fourth, with the biggest blow coming on a Jonah Davis grand slam.
Kingsport's offense would attempt to crawl back into the game, but the dficit would prove to be too much.
Mark Vientos and Raul Beracierta each totaled two hits in the loss.
Vientos hit a two-run homer in the 5th, for his ninth longball of the season.
The Mets now embark on a cruicial six-day, seven-game road swing through Elizabethton and Danville.
Kingsport will open up the road trip with a doubleheader tomorrow evening against the first place Twins, before playing single games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Then the Mets will travel to Danville for three, before returning home for a three-game set against the Bluefield Blue Jays next Sunday.
