Twins Win Shootout Over Mets

The Kingsport Mets dropped a heartbreaker Sunday evening to the Elizabethton Twins by a 11-10 decision.
The loss drops Kingsport three back in the Appalachian League West race to first place Elizabethton, with one more crucial matchup in the series tomorrow evening.
Sunday's contest could really be described as two different games.
The Mets won the first six innings of crisp, clean baseball 4-2, thanks to a two-run home run by Gavin Garay, his second in as many days, and strong starting pitching from Matt Cleveland.
Cleveland threw five solid innings, giving up just five hits and two runs, both unearned.
However, in the seventh the Mets' bullpen got into trouble. After two consecutive two out walks, Twins' third baseman Alex Robles hit a three-run home run to give Elizabethton its first lead of the day at 5-4.
The Twins plated three more in the eighth inning, with the big blow being a two-run single by DaShawn Keirsey Jr.
The Mets would not fold however. Four of the first five Mets to bat in the eighth would walk, and Mark Vientos the Twins pay with a two-run double to cut the deficit to 8-7.
The next batter was Jarred Kelenic, and the prospect hit a two-run triple down the right field line to give Kingsport a 9-8 advantage going into the ninth.
However, the Twins would answer immediately. Chris Williams hit a leadoff homer to tie it off of Mets' reliever Nelson Leon. Then, four of the next five Twins would single, knocking in two more runs to give Elizabethton an 11-9 lead.
The Mets would rally in the bottom of the ninth, as Raul Beracierta and Guillermo Granadillo got on to bring the winning run to the plate with one out. But, the Mets could only plate one run on a Shervyen Newton sac fly, and would drop the game 11-10.
Kingsport and Elizabethton will finish up the set tomorrow evening on FunFest Night at Hunter Wright Stadium.
The Mets and Ingles Markets are proud to present Joe Lasher Jr. who will be conducting a pregame concert at 5:15, and postgame fireworks.
In addition, it's Military Monday, and the players will be wearing special Military Appreciation uniforms.
Gates open at 4:30, and the first pitch is set for 6:30.
