Chris DeVito's grand slam gave Lexington the lead in the fifth inning, and the Legends went on to a 5-3 win over the Greenville Drive Monday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
The Legends took an early lead when Amalani Fukofuka led off the bottom of the third inning with a home run, but Greenville moved in front with two runs in the top of the fifth.
Yoan Aybar drew a leadoff walk, and Lorenzo Cedrola followed with a single. Aybar went to third on the hit, and Cedrola took second on the throw to third. Aybar scored as Santiago Espinal grounded out, and Tyler Hill singled Cedrola home to put the Drive ahead 2-1.
Fukofuka, who had three hits in the game, started the bottom of the fifth with a single. He was sacrificed to second by Ricky Aracena. Angelo Castellano flied out to left field for the second out, but Marten Gasparini drew a walk and Kort Peterson was hit by a pitch before DeVito hit the first pitch over the wall in right field to give the Legends a 5-2 lead.
A solo homer by Greenville's Isaias Lucena in the sixth inning closed out the scoring.
Lexington starter Garrett Davila (1-1) got the win. He pitched the first six innings and allowed four hits and three runs. He walked five batters and struck out four.
Jace Vines earned his first save with three innings of scoreless relief in which he allowed one hit. He struck out two batters and walked none.
Greenville starter Darwinzon Hernandez (1-1), who was relieved after DeVito's homer, took the loss.
The series continues Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
