Stache Tank winners to be announced
(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends will announce the winners of their Stache Tank competition this Thursday and Friday.
Stache Tank brought teams of students from William Wells Brown Elementary School and STEAM Academy (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) of Lexington to Whitaker Bank Ballpark in January to present their ideas for a Legends-related project to a panel of community leaders and Legends employees. The elementary students designed a Legends item to be given away to fans at a home game; the STEAM students, who are at high school level, presented ideas for the use of space at the ballpark now occupied by a basketball court.
Stache Tank was based on the TV series Shark Tank, in which would-be entrepreneurs present their business ideas to a panel of potential investors. 'Stache' is a reference to the Legends' mustache logo.
On Thursday, March 24 at 10 a.m., Legends president/CEO Andy Shea and director of community relations Rebecca Barnes will be at STEAM Academy, 123 East Sixth Street, for a school assembly, where they will present the winning team with an award.
On Friday, March 25 at 11 a.m., Shea and Barnes will recognize the winning team at a school assembly at William Wells Brown Elementary, 555 E. Fifth Street.
The item designed by the William Wells Brown students is scheduled to be given away to fans at the Legends game Friday May 13. All student participants from both William Wells Brown and STEAM Academy will be guests of the Legends at Whitaker Bank Ballpark that night.
"We're excited to announce the winners of both of these programs," Barnes said. "The students at William Wells Brown and STEAM put forth such an amazing effort. We look forward to seeing their hard work become a reality here at the ballpark."
"It was our pleasure to work with both schools on this project, along with leaders in the community who served on our panels," Shea added. "The students have done great work. It's been an exciting process right from the start, and there's more to come."
