Game Summary: The Tacoma Rainiers used seven walks to score six runs and came back from a three-run deficit to beat the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 6-3, Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. The Dodgers (52-38) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning with RBI doubles by Hunter Feduccia and Tony Wolters and a RBI single by Drew Avans. Tacoma (38-51) scored once in the second inning and still trailed, 3-1, in the fifth inning when the Rainiers scored four runs while collecting just one hit. The Rainiers drew four walks in the inning and also had a hit batter as part of the rally. Tacoma again scored in the sixth inning without a hit, capitalizing on a walk, a stolen base and a wild pitch. The Dodgers were limited to one hit following the second inning, with 22 of the final 24 batters retired by the Rainiers pitching staff.

Of Note:

-The Dodgers lost three of their final four games in Tacoma and had to settle for a series split after winning the first two games. The head into the All-Star Break with a 5-10 record in July and 6-11 record over their last 17 games. After going 10-1-3 through their first 14 series of the season, the Dodgers are 0-2-1 over their last three series.

-Drew Avans tallied three of the team’s five hits, going 3-for-4 with a RBI. He led off the game with a single and has led off each of the last four games with a hit. Avans extended his on-base streak to 29 games, which is the longest by an OKC player this year and longest active streak in the PCL. He has now hit safely in 25 of his last 29 games and has reached base safely in 43 of his last 43 games. He’s also on a season-best nine-game hitting streak, going 16-for-40 (.400). Avans stole at least one base for a third straight game and has four steals during that time, pushing his team-leading total to 18…Outside of Avans, the rest of the Dodgers lineup went 2-for-28.

-Reliever Marshall Kasowski retired all four batters he faced with two strikeouts and has now allowed only one run and three hit over his last seven appearances, spanning 9.1 innings. Jake Reed made his first appearance since being claimed off waivers from the New York Mets and retired the side in order in the fourth inning.

-For the third time this season, the Dodgers lost a game they led by three runs. All three instances have been in series finales on the road.

-Tacoma drew seven walks, as the Dodgers pitching staff allowed at least six walks for the 10th time in the last 15 games. Five of the six runners who eventually scored directly reached base via walk or hit by pitch, with the other runner reaching base on a fielder’s choice immediately following a walk. Aside from the walks, the pitching staff allowed six hits, with one for extra bases, and held the Rainiers 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

-Over the last 10 games, the Dodgers are 5-5. In the five wins, they’ve scored 52 runs, but in the five losses they’ve scored 17 runs. Following Drew Avans’ RBI single in the second inning, the Dodgers went 1-for-the-last-23.
