Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets nine-game winning streak came to an end as they were outslugged by the Salt Lake Bees, 14-13, Saturday night at The Ballpark at America First Square. The Comets (21-16/62-49) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, including RBI singles by Ryan Ward and Alek Thomas. Salt Lake (11-27/51-61) responded with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the first and later took the lead with three runs in the second inning to go ahead, 5-3. The Comets stormed right back with five runs in the third inning, all scoring with two outs, helped by a triple from Thomas and singles from Eliezer Alfonzo and Noah Miller to jump in front, 8-5. Both teams exchanged a run in the fourth inning with the Comets scoring on an infield single by Thomas. Salt Lake got within one run following a two-run homer from Kyren Paris in the fifth inning. The Comets got both runs back in the sixth inning, as Thomas recorded a RBI double as part of the rally. Salt Lake answered yet again with five two-out runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead, capped by a go-ahead three-run homer from Paris to give Salt Lake a 13-11 advantage. The Bees added an additional run in the seventh inning before OKC scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning with a RBI single by Kim and bases-loaded walk drawn by Alfonzo. However the Comets left the bases loaded in the eighth inning and were unable to rally in the ninth inning.

Of Note:

-The Comets nine-game winning streak came to a close, dropping their first game since July 28 vs. Las Vegas.

-Both teams combined for 27 runs, the second-most in a Comets game this season, trailing only a 20-8 win at Albuquerque May 17…Saturday’s loss marked just the sixth time during the Bricktown era (since 1998) that OKC scored at least 13 runs in a game and lost, with the previous instance also in a 14-13 defeat May 15, 2022 at Round Rock. The loss also snapped a string of 58 consecutive wins when scoring at least 10 runs, with the last loss June 6, 2024 vs. Round Rock in Game 2 of a doubleheader, 11-10.

-Oklahoma City has reached double-digit runs and hits in four of the five games during the current series, finishing Saturday with 13 runs and 14 hits, bringing the Comets’ five-game total to 52 runs and 67 hits...The Comets have scored at least six runs in 11 of the last 12 games, totaling 100 runs in that span. Oklahoma City has put together an inning of three or more runs in each of the last 12 games, including twice Saturday,.

-The Comets surrendered 14 runs and 14 hits, allowing their second-most runs in a game this season and most since allowing 17 runs Apri 19 at Albuquerque. The Comets had allowed a combined 10 runs across the prior three contests and 30 total runs during the nine-game win streak.

-Alek Thomas matched season highs in hits and RBI, going 4-for-6 with a double, triple and four RBI. He’s driven in eight runs across the last two games, combining to go 6-for-11 with three extra-base hits. Thomas recorded four hits in a game for the second time this season, last doing so June 19 vs. Sacramento.

-Ryan Ward went 3-for-5 with a RBI and now has 18 RBI over last 11 games, going 15-for-45 (.333) during that span.

-Zach Ehrhard drew three walks to extend his on-base streak to 17 games, now the fourth-longest on-base streak by a Comet this season. The outfielder is batting .354 (23-for-65) with 14 RBI, 18 walks and 19 runs scored during the stretch.
