Game Summary: In a pitchers’ duel that required an extra inning, the Oklahoma City Comets came out on top with a 1-0 win in 10 innings against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Sunday afternoon at Constellation Field. Both teams were held off the scoreboard through nine innings, combining for six hits during that span with OKC starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan firing 6.0 scoreless frames. Oklahoma City (29-21/70-54) ended the scoreless tie in the 10th inning with a leadoff RBI single from Matt Gorski to plate Austin Gauthier, who started the inning at second base as OKC’s automatic runner. Sugar Land (34-17/66-59) drew a pair of two-out walks in the bottom of the 10th to load the bases before Seth Halvorsen struck out Lucas Spence to end the game. Five Comets pitchers combined for OKC’s fifth shutout in the month of August.

Of Note:

-Oklahoma City won the final two games of the series to secure a series split in Sugar Land and the Comets are now 3-0-1 in their last four series…Four of the six games at Constellation Field this series were decided by one run as the Comets wrapped up the week 4.5 games behind first-place Sugar Land in the PCL second half standings.

-The Comets captured their 10th shutout victory and fifth in the month of August after last blanking an opponent Aug. 16 vs. Albuquerque, 5-0…Three of OKC’s shutouts this season have been 1-0 victories, including two of the last three…OKC’s 10 shutouts this season are the most shutouts for an OKC team in a single season since collecting 12 in 2016…Sunday’s win marked the first time OKC recorded a 1-0 win in extra innings since a 1-0 victory against Colorado Springs Aug. 27, 2016 in a scheduled seven-inning game that was decided in the ninth inning…Sunday’s win was OKC’s first 1-0 win in 10 or more innings since a 14-inning, 1-0 win July 1, 2009 at Iowa.

-Oklahoma City played in its second extra-inning game over the last three days, playing in two extra-inning games in the same series for the first time since May 13-18, 2025 at Round Rock. The Comets are now 3-5 in extra-inning contests this season.

-The Comets allowed 13 runs across six games in Sugar Land this week…The Comets have surrendered four runs or fewer in each of the last 11 games, totaling 20 runs (14 ER) during that span…After allowing a run in the first inning Saturday, the Comets have not allowed a run in 18 consecutive innings.

-Emmet Sheehan fired 6.0 scoreless innings with one hit, two walks and nine strikeouts in a no decision during his third start with the Comets this season. He retired a stretch of 14 straight batters from the first to fifth inning. Sheehan matched an Oklahoma City season-high in strikeouts, becoming the third pitcher with nine strikeouts in a start and first since Tyler Glasnow Aug. 19 earlier in the series…Over his last two starts, Sheehan has thrown 11.2 scoreless innings with four hits, four walks and 17 strikeouts.

-Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen continued a Major League Rehab Assignment and made his third appearance with Oklahoma City. Treinen tossed a scoreless eighth inning with one hit and two strikeouts. He threw 17 pitches (10 strikes)…Across three appearances with Oklahoma City, Treinen has pitched 2.2 innings with two hits, one walk and five strikeouts...Treinen has been on the Dodgers’ Injured List since June 20 due to right elbow inflammation.

-Five Oklahoma City pitchers combined to match a season-high 16 strikeouts for the fourth time this season, last accomplished Aug. 14 vs. Albuquerque. The Comets reached double-figures for the sixth time over the last seven games. Over six games in Sugar Land, the Comets struck out 70 batters.
