Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets secured two wins against the El Paso Chihuahuas Friday night at Southwest University Park, winning the resumption of a suspended game, 14-7, before winning the regularly scheduled game between the teams, 4-3, in seven innings. The evening started with the final five innings of Thursday’s suspended game after the teams played to a 5-5 tie through four innings yesterday. The Comets had built a 2-0 advantage Thursday before the Chihuahuas scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead. Oklahoma City (47-26/88-59) answered with three more runs in the third inning, including a two-run homer by Austin Gauthier. El Paso then knotted the score in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly before the game was suspended due to rain. When the game resumed at the top of the fifth inning Friday, the Comets scored six runs over the sixth and seventh innings to take an 11-5 lead, including a RBI double by Hyeseong Kim, home run by Noah Miller and a two-run triple from Alek Thomas. After the Chihuahuas (24-49/59-89) scored a run in the eighth inning, Matt Gorski smacked a three-run home run out to center field in the ninth inning to push OKC’s run total to 14. A RBI triple by Nick Pratto closed out the scoring for El Paso in its final at-bat.

The regularly scheduled game between the teams followed and the Chihuahuas scored first, quickly taking the lead on a RBI single by Nick Solak in the first inning. Oklahoma City tied the game by scoring a run on a Chihuahuas fielding error then took the lead on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. Gorski knocked a two-run double later in the inning for a 4-1 advantage for the Comets. El Paso scored two runs in the fifth inning to trim OKC’s lead to one run, 4-3. With the bases loaded for El Paso in the seventh inning and one out, Garrett McDaniels struck out Pratto before getting Gage Workman to fly out to secure the Comets win.

Of Note:

-The PCL second half champion Comets won both games Friday to take a 3-1 series lead in their final road series against the Chihuahuas…The Comets now have 88 wins overall this season for the second-most wins in a season by an OKC team during the Bricktown era and most since recording a franchise record 90 wins in 2023 (90-58)…Oklahoma City has won 11 of the last 12 road games and is 17-5 in the last 22 road games.

-Matt Gorski racked up seven RBI over the two games. He recorded five RBI in the first game, tying his career-high mark done twice previously and most recently May 21, 2024 with Indianapolis at Iowa. The five-RBI performance was the 10th of the season for the Comets, but first since James Tibbs III had six RBI May 28 in Sugar Land.

-The Comets scored 14 runs in the first game, reaching the mark for the third time this season and first time since May 17 in Albuquerque when they scored a season-high 20 runs. OKC also had 18 hits in the first game, reaching the milestone for the fifth time this season and first time since that same May 17 game in Albuquerque (20 H)…In the first game, all nine Comets hitters recorded at least one hit and seven players recorded multi-hit games, including three-hit performances from Zach Ehrhard and Alek Thomas.

-Zach Ehrhard tallied four hits over the two games, including a 3-for-6 outing in the first game with two doubles. He extended his hitting streak to a season-best 10 games and is 18-for-40 (.450) with five extra-base hits and seven RBI during the stretch…He also scored four runs over the two games, upping his league-leading run total to 117 and adding to his Bricktown era single-season record.

-Alek Thomas went 5-for-6 over the two games with two doubles, a triple, two RBI and four runs scored. Over the last three games he is 7-for-10.

-Hyeseong Kim’s season-best on-base streak extended to 16 games as he reached base safely in both contests Friday, collecting two hits. During the on-base streak he is 20-for-62 (.323).

-OKC hit three homers in the first game and has six homers through the first four games of the series and 13 over the last eight games.
