Comets Finish Regular Season with 2-1 Win in El Paso

Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets ended the regular season with a 2-1 victory against the El Paso Chihuahuas Sunday afternoon at Southwest University Park. Oklahoma City (48-27/89-60) took the lead in the first inning with a RBI groundout off the bat of Ryan Fitzgerald. El Paso (25-50/60-90) tied the game in the second inning with an Anthony Vilar run-scoring single. The Comets broke the tie in the eighth inning, jumping in front on a RBI triple by Alek Thomas. The Oklahoma City bullpen held El Paso scoreless over the final five innings and held the Chihuahuas without a hit through the final three frames.

Of Note:

-Oklahoma City finished the 2026 regular season with an 89-60 record, becoming the second team in franchise history to collect at least 89 wins during the Bricktown era. The Comets finished with the best record in the Pacific Coast League and with the second-most wins in Triple-A, ending the year one win shy of Rochester (WSH), which finished 90-58 in the International League.

-The Comets recorded a series win, 4-2, over the Chihuahuas. Oklahoma City claimed its seventh series win across the last eight series, improving to 7-0-1 during the stretch.

-Zach Ehrhard went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs scored. He extended his hitting streak to a season-best 12 games and is 20-for-48 (.417) with seven extra-base hits and seven RBI during the stretch. Ehrhard’s hitting streak is tied for the second-longest by an Oklahoma City hitter this season…Ehrhard upped his league-leading run total to 120, adding to his Bricktown era single-season record.

-Alek Thomas collected a game-high two hits with a triple, RBI and stolen base. Over his last four games he is 9-for-14 with four extra-base hits and four RBI.

-Chris Newell finished 1-for-3 with a walk and stolen base as he collected a hit in all six games this week. During the series, Newell finished 9-for-21 with three extra-base hits and seven RBI.

-Ryder Ryan started the game for the Comets, pitching 4.0 innings with one run, three hits, one walk and one strikeout in a no decision. It marked Ryan’s longest appearance since June 28 at Reno.
